BA Couriers The delivery system behind Bumblebee Auctions

ECL run the collection and delivery system behind the auction site www.bumblbeeauctions.co.uk and have done so successfully for the last two years.

The brief was to provide a collection and delivery system to complement Bumblebee Auctions a new auction website specifically for the UK Police Forces to sell found and seized property and Police Force assets. The project was funded by PITO www.pito.org and developed by Surrey Police www.surrey.police.uk and Coraider Services Ltd. Exess Consultants Ltd acted as consultants to the project.

The project entailed grappling with some large problems for any company that handles logistics, the problem was and still is that the Police Auctions process does not allow for any items to be packaged at the property office level. This was quickly realised as the system was scoped back in 2002. The impact of asking the property officers to pack and wrap and label items that can be of any size and shape was too great, both from a manpower resources level and the problem providing packaging materials to potentially hundreds of property offices.

The solution was that a bespoke system was required that needed a 'man and a van' approach that operated on a scheduled collection run between Police Forces to arrange runs on the most economic cycles.

There are other factors that affect the cost of operating this system and hence the cost to the users and they are the the number of items for collections from a particular office and Police Force and the geographical locations of the Police Forces in relation to the collection run.

In essence the process is simple : -
